In Berlin Maniacs, players take on the role of the young student Tina in a fictionalized snapshot of West Berlin in the year of 1968, a time when state violence led to radicalization within the student protest movement. Invited by friends, Tina gets to know the different political factions among students, radicals, reformers and anarchists, and will have to navigate their different agendas to make sure her friends are safe and that their vision for a better tomorrow prevails. Berlin Maniacs started out as an attempt to pitch a social-realistic topic set in recent German history as a commercial entertainment game. Our lofty goal was to breach into the indie mainstream with a game that clearly had a political message of class struggle. Unsurprisingly, this was not successful, but we managed to build a prototype and are now rethinking of how we could still bring the game to life. This prototype is what we would like to show at Amaze to collect insights, ideas and inspiration on how to proceed.
